This is a very rare little antique Chinese altar table that has a raised flanged top at each end. When viewed from the end, there is a piece of trim that covers the end of the boards. The front and back edges of the lid have multiple carved details, due to its size it is a very rare piece because it was possibly for travel or use by children, it is the only miniature on sale and it is 100% original.
A straight apron with a beaded bottom edge runs under the top with beautiful carved spandrels pierced at each end and also mirrored on the outside of the legs. The spandrel style is commonly known as the cloud pattern.
Monumental Chinese altar table from the early 20th century made in the late Qing / early Republic era. Built in elm with mortise and tenon joinery. It features large spandrels carved with ruyi cloud motifs and rolled ends. The table has a beautiful antique red lacquer finish that adds character and charm to the piece. Excellent cabinetmaking and crafts.
The front edge of the legs has multiple carved details. Between the end legs are 3 carved perforated panels between horizontal stretchers. The bottom section is a simple design. The end panels are supported by solid footrests, which show considerable wear, most likely from sitting on dirt floors.
